Fragility

The current crisis makes us aware of other fragile aspects of our world. No one is geographically immune to this virus and the same might hold true for climate change. This is obviously the very first crisis of its kind for many of us, and it might not be the last. Prior to the outbreak, we witnessed the effects of climate change, warming temperatures, and huge fires and floods on an unprecedented scale. The Corona crisis is having a positive effect on the climate; in 2020, human CO2 emissions will drop for the first time. Satellite images have revealed the industrial areas of China and Italy to be strikingly free of smog.

Safe Havens

Our homes have become our safe havens during the crisis, and we will be spending more time at home in the future. Our living places will adapt, with the creation of dedicated working spaces at home. Housing will reflect a new focus on health and well-being, with enhanced natural ventilation and added exercise spaces, where possible. We will pay more attention to our quality of life and how we spend our time. New working hours and rhythms are being explored and new relationships are being built, with greater honesty and transparency.

A New Era

If we simply return back to normal, negative impacts of climate change will continue with renewed frequency and intensity. The current crisis can be a catalyst for entering a new era of radical, collaborative action to cut emissions and slow down climate change.

Love of Nature

Altered Earth is a plea for greater connection between people and nature and for using the insights and wisdom garnered from nature to create a better world. Nature is beautiful, deliberate and intriguing and we can learn so much from it. Nature has been building structures for far longer than humans; it teaches us to eliminate waste products in production methods since nature has no waste. Making connections is at the heart of everything that lives.

Palette

The palette contains shades of soft yellow and warm beiges; these new neutrals are the colours of sustainability, the true colours representing carbon neutrality. Colours such as beige, off-white and unbleached ‘natural’ all require fewer pigments and production methods. The palette makes a statement in support of a carbon-neutral lifestyle. The neutral shades are supported by two vivid greens, a warm orange and a bright, uplifting yellow.

The colour Sea Green is a calming colour that invites you to breath and relax. The green colour imparts a sense of being part of a bigger whole.

Colourways

Bi-colour

The bi-colour combinations are light and airy. The colours strengthen each other and make the combination look fresh and natural.

Amber

Orange tones glow as the sun. The range from the Warm glow orange to the Zinc yellow is a natural gradient.

Greens

The green tones have the key colour Sea green as a base. The Moss and Zinc yellow come from nature but add a acid tone to the palette. The Featherlight and Ice blue neutralise the range.

The neutrals

Natural dyed colours are the new neutrals. They are dyed with plants, minerals or food waste. The colours are neutral, the Zinc yellow and the Warm glow add a flowery touch to the range.
