Material Concepts
LIGHTWEIGHT
The materials of Eastern Perspective are lightweight, resembling materialised air; for instance, featherweight nylon. Fluidity and light effects impart an extra dimension to the materials. Materials with an iridescent glow reflect the light. Coatings have a wet and liquid look. Fabrics resemble woven light, with shifting metallics.
Fluid
The materials have a smooth, fluid surface. Finishes are shiny, with a liquid appearance. Fabrics display melange effects, giving greater depth to the colour. The materials and patterns are inspired by the movement of data streams; pixels that form melanges, speed that creates gradients. Translucence is emphasised, the light affects the materials. Metallics are smooth and take on a mysterious allure when they are deeply coloured. A touch of gold in the materials evokes nostalgia and the search for beauty and symbolism. The metallics create shifting colour effects: blues take on a green tone; dark reds show a hint of purple.
NOSTALGIC BEAUTY
Craft unites East and West. Ancient techniques are being used in new ways, connecting the past to the future. The warmth and familiarity of ancient crafts are passing down tradition and culture and shaping a local identity. A thin layer of patina reflects a material’s aged and weathered state. It forms an effect on the surface of copper, brass, bronze, stone, leather or wood. Patina gives a material greater depth and adds life to shapes and textures.
WOOD & BAMBOO
Wood is lightweight and fast-growing, such as bamboo. Simple woven patterns and structures are inspired by natural materials like leaves. Different types of wood are used, bamboo is combined with natural stone and marble, combining traditional skills and timeless beauty.
