Ecology economy

Building resilient local structures requires long-term planning and commitment. Lasting community infrastructure emerges through careful adaptation and deep understanding of local needs, developing flexible, place-based systems and communities that can evolve and strengthen over time.

Climate change is a symptom of broader social and economic issues. Brands should redefine growth by prioritizing ecological balance, sustainability, and collective well-being. The emotional distance between consumers, production, and nature must close. Brands that reestablish this connection by humanizing production, embracing craft, and respecting natural systems can lead the way.

Move from extraction to regeneration, embedding principles of care, circularity, and responsibility into every aspect of the company. Build small self-sustaining circles and reduce the reliance on new, virgin materials. Boosting renewable energy and cutting material extraction by 30% is key to improving environmental health.

In a world seeking deeper meaning, grounding our actions in core values fosters genuine connections and nurtures our bond with the Earth. By embracing adaptive strategies that prioritize resilience and focus on health and connection, we build a future where communities and ecosystems thrive in harmony.

Local barley

Barley is grown in greenhouses in Iceland to produce ingredients used in local industries, such as skin care for brands like Bioeffect, food such as milk alternatives by Bygg Foods, and brewing as the Einstök Beer Company does. The greenhouses are powered by Iceland’s abundant geothermal energy, which provides a sustainable and efficient way to regulate temperature and create optimal growing conditions for barley. This method allows farmers to cultivate barley year-round, despite the country’s generally harsh weather conditions. Read more here
