Material Concepts
Zones
The materials of Synchrony are characterised by grids, divides and fragments, which are divided into functional areas. The materials are inspired by what AI sees and how it classifies visual information. Transparencies and mirrored surfaces divide the digital space. Reflective, absorbing or conductive areas are designed in a graphic manner.
Artificial
Materials are artificial or have an unnatural glow to them. They are the physical translations of the wild experiments created in the digital space. Plastics, rubber, materials and objects resemble bizarre 3D renderings. Plastic and rubber are poured over metal, dripping and brightly coloured. The tactility of the physical renderings is enhanced and taken to extremes. New forms of expression are playful and dynamic.
Luminance
The light shines through the Synchrony materials; their look and feel are inspired by what we see and experience on our screens. The materials seem to have a light behind them; they glow and catch our attention. The materials are made and connected in a way that resembles networks and connections. Materials are stacked and layered with a strong geometrical influence. The materials are like skins in games, chosen for their appearance and personality.
Artificial Nature
The materials of Synchrony are organic, layered and structured to create depth. The materials evoke the texture and look of natural environments. The surfaces resemble artificial nature, the patterns of geophysical phenomena. The materials pay tribute to nature in a poetic sense, creating an immersive aesthetic. The combination of modern technology with traditional craftsmanship adds a human touch to high-tech materials.
