4/The idea of permanence

Vision 2026 update

The Idea of Permanence

The concept of permanence is influenced by technology and the dynamic nature of data. Technology, as a force of rapid transformation, continuously evolves and accelerates beyond the pace of the world around it. In this process, contexts shift, are animated, and classified, turning into tangible representations of data, science, and meaning.

Permanence also draws inspiration from envisioning future worlds shaped by technology. This concept carries a hint of nostalgic retrofuturism—are we caught in a cycle of reimagining past visions of the future? What defines true progress, and how can technology better serve humanity and the planet? In an increasingly fluid world, technology might benefit from a touch of nostalgia.

In a constantly changing world, permanence implies that thoughtfully designed objects and ideas should not require frequent updates. They simplify and organize life by returning to design principles that have stood the test of time.

This translation from fluidity to solidity, from abstract ideas to concrete form, and from data points to meaningful insights reflects a desire to simplify and navigate complexity. The idea of permanence connects the past, present, and future, balancing the digital with the physical (IRL). It acknowledges that tangibility and fluidity can coexist, where colours are bright, reflecting vibrancy, not static but continually evolving.
